1. Glen Powell Sr. – A Life in Service

Glen Powell Sr. was born on October 11th, 1922 in Baltimore, MD. Powell Sr. was the only son of four children born to his parents. His father was a Baptist minister and his mother was a homemaker. Powell Sr. grew up in a strict household where he was expected to behave and perform well in school.

Powell Sr. excelled in his studies and was an all-around good student. He was active in sports and played on his high school’s football and baseball teams. After high school, Powell Sr. attended Howard University on a football scholarship. He played for the Howard University football team for two years before enlisting in the United States Army in 1943.

Powell Sr. served in the Army for three years during World War II. He was stationed in the Philippines and saw combat during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war, Powell Sr. returned to Howard University and graduated with a degree in sociology in 1949.

Powell Sr. began his career in social work after graduation. He worked for the Baltimore City Department of Social Services for a few years before moving to New York City to work for the Harlem Tenants Council. Powell Sr. was instrumental in helping to improve living conditions for tenants in Harlem. He also worked with the New York City Housing Authority to help develop public housing projects in Harlem.

In the early 1960s, Powell Sr. returned to Baltimore to work for the Baltimore City Housing Authority. He helped to create and implement the city’s first Section 8 housing program. Powell Sr. also worked on urban renewal projects in Baltimore. He was responsible for the redevelopment of the city’s Inner Harbor area.

Powell Sr. retired from the Baltimore City Housing Authority in the late 1980s. He continued to work in the field of social work, however, serving on the boards of several non-profit organizations. Powell Sr. also worked as a consultant for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

2. Powell Sr.’s Early Years and Military Service

Glen Powell Sr. was born on April 5th, 1943 in Charleston, South Carolina. Powell Sr. served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, Powell Sr. attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in business administration.

Powell Sr. began his career in the banking industry, working for several banks in South Carolina. In the early 1980s, Powell Sr. founded the First National Bank of South Carolina. Powell Sr. served as the bank’s president and CEO for over 25 years.

Powell Sr. was an active member of the community, serving on the boards of several organizations, including the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Charleston Museum. Powell Sr. was also a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston.

Powell Sr. and his wife, Ann, have two sons, Glen Powell Jr. and Gregory Powell. Powell Sr. passed away on December 27, 2018, at the age of 75.

3. Powell Sr.’s Civilian Career

Glen Powell Sr. is a retired United States Army officer who had a long and distinguished career. He served in a variety of leadership positions, including as the Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and as the Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a highly decorated veteran, having been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart.

Powell was born in New York City in 1943. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1966. He was commissioned as an infantry officer and served in a variety of leadership positions, including as a company commander in Vietnam. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions in combat.

Powell returned to West Point in 1984 as the Superintendent. He served in this position until his retirement from the Army in 1991. He then worked in the private sector for a number of years, before returning to West Point in 2003 as the President of the Association of Graduates. He served in this position until his retirement in 2013.

In addition to being a successful businessman, Glen Sr. was also a talented musician. He played the piano and sang in a local band. He loved music and instilled a love of music in his children.

Glen Sr. was a loving father and husband. He was a strong presence in his children’s lives. He taught them the importance of hard work and determination. He instilled in them a love of music and a strong work ethic.

Glen Sr. passed away in 2013 at the age of 81. He was survived by his wife, Gloria; his four children; and his seven grandchildren.
