1. Early life and family
Rodion Amirov was born on December 29, 2004, in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic, Russia. His father, Adam Amirov, is a former military intelligence officer who later worked as a businessman. His mother, Zarema Sadulayeva, is a former teacher who now works as a homemaker. Amirov has two older sisters, Dina and Zara.
Amirov’s family is of Tatar descent. His grandfather, Rafis Amirov, was a Tatar who served in the Red Army during World War II and later worked as a milkman. His grandmother, Nadezhda Amirova, was a housewife.
Amirov was raised in a Muslim household and he is fluent in the Chechen language. He is also proficient in Russian and English.
Amirov’s parents divorced when he was six years old. He and his sisters lived with their father in Grozny while their mother moved to Moscow. Amirov’s father remarried when he was eight years old and he has two half-siblings, Timur and Aysha.
Amirov’s father was killed in a car accident in 2013. His mother later married Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic.
Amirov attended elementary and secondary school in Grozny. He is currently enrolled at Moscow State University.
2. Basketball career
In his homeland of Russia, Amirov was considered one of the top young prospects in the country. He played for the junior national team and was a member of the senior national team that won a bronze medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Amirov was also a member of the Russian team that won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Amirov began his professional career with BC Avtodor in the VTB United League, the top-tier professional basketball league in Russia. He made his debut in the 2019–20 season and quickly established himself as a key player for the team. In his rookie season, Amirov averaged 5.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
The following season, Amirov’s role with the team increased as he averaged 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He also began to see more playing time in the EuroCup, a European-wide competition for professional basketball teams. In the 2020–21 season, Amirov helped Avtodor to reach the EuroCup quarterfinals. He averaged 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in the competition.
Amirov has also been a member of the Russian national team. He won a bronze medal with the team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Rodion Amirov is a Russian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with HC Sochi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Amirov was selected in the first round, 16th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Amirov was born on October 11, 2001, in Ufa, Russia. He began playing hockey at the age of five. Amirov began his professional career with HC Sochi of the KHL, appearing in six games during the 219–20 season.
On October 9, 2020, Amirov made his NHL debut with the Arizona Coyotes, against the St. Louis Blues. On November 27, 2020, Amirov scored his first NHL goal, against the San Jose Sharks.
Amirov is of Tatar descent. His father, Rustam, is a former professional hockey player who played for HC Sochi and HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.
