1. Early Life
Russell Wilson was born on November 29, 1988, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Harrison Wilson, a lawyer, and Tammy Wilson, a legal nurse consultant. Wilson has an older brother, Harry, and a younger sister, Anna. When Wilson was four, his family relocated to Richmond, Virginia, where he became a star quarterback at Collegiate School. In 2007, Wilson led his team to the Virginia state championship, throwing for 3,287 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Wilson’s father played football at Dartmouth College and his mother was a softball player at the University of Maine. Wilson’s parents divorced when he was just a young boy and he was raised by his father and stepmother, Ana Wilson. Wilson has said that his parent’s divorce had a “profound” effect on him and that he has “always had to adjust and adapt.”
Wilson’s father died of a heart attack in 2010, when Wilson was just 22 years old. Wilson has said that his father’s death was “the worst thing that’s ever happened” to him and that it “changed [his] life forever.”

2. College Career
Russell Wilson entered the NFL draft in 2012 as a highly touted quarterback prospect out of the University of Wisconsin. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round and immediately thrust into the starting role. Wilson proved to be up to the task, leading the Seahawks to a division title and a berth in the NFC Championship game.
Wilson’s play has only gotten better in the years since, as he’s led the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title and been named to the Pro Bowl four times. His career passer rating of 101.2 is the best in NFL history, and he’s shown an uncanny ability to make big plays in the clutch.

Wilson had a breakout season in 2011, his redshirt junior year. He was named the Big Ten Conference’s Gatorade Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Manning Award and the Davey O’Brien Award. He was also named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press. Wilson completed 212 of 316 passes for 3,175 yards, 33 touchdowns, and four interceptions.
